Alanís Memories of 26 Years at Sea
Alan Mackenzie has made a huge contributed to this site with over 200 photos and a 6378 word essay about his amazing 26 year career. Brilliant stuff, thanks Alan. To reduce the loading time Iíve split it all up into 9 separate pages listed under the ships that Alan sailed on.
All the narration with each photo is from Alan.

Sea Princess anchored at Bali.
A nice night shot of Sea Princess berthed at Circular Quay.
Sea Princess seen from the cable car at Pago Pago.
Leaving for a boat-trip, Lautoka. With back to us on the stbd side of the boat, is Clive Glover 3/EO, commonly known as "GG" or "Granny Grabber"! Can't see who's next to him. Richard Tyzack Ch/Off at the tiller, Karl Rotchell 2/EO facing on the port side but cannot remember the other two.
Officers' Carol Choir singing on Christmas Eve in the Lookout Bar. In charge, Richard Tyzack, in yellow oilskin jacket. In the stripy top with woolly hat is Rob Morley AP. In the blue stripy hood is Rosie Irwin N/Sister and behind her right shoulder, Shaun Faulkner D/P. I'm just behind the girl in the yellow top, almost out of sight! The lad in the blue top with striped sleeves is another AP. Afraid I can't remember the rest!
In the Wardroom, Christmas Night. D/Capt Peter Love, singing his party piece, "The Hole in the Elephant's Bottom". Behind him, (those I remember) are: Dave Ferguson 2/EO, Rosie Irwin, Richard Tyzack and Mike Carr 1/O.
Officers & Wives Scottish Dancing Team in Tiffany's Bar on New Year's Eve.
Don't remember the girls so well but think 3rd from left is Stuart Fleming's wife, one of the former Carlin sisters.
Maggie Pile Chillie-Ho, Rosie Irwin N/sister, Mrs. Love and (I think) a hostess.
Officers' Review for the Passengers in the Pacific Lounge. This is the "One Finger, One Thumb, keep Moving" sketch.
Rob Morley AP, Self 2/RO, "GG" 3/EO, Terry Firth 3/El/O, and I can't remember the chap on the end, except that he was another Electrical Officer.
The Finale - selection of Sea Songs (clean!) by: Jeff Bray E/Cdt, Self, Shaun Faulkner D/P & Captain Tony Dallas.
Self and Rosie Irwin in the Wardroom.
Passing Oriana in the Pacific. She was doing about 27 knots, came hurtling down our port side, around our stern and went flying back up our starboard beam at about 2 cables distance. What a magnificent sight!
An open-deck barbecue behind the Bridge. I think the chap passing the VB was Terry Firth but don't remember the others.
On top of the Dummy Funnel - Self doing some metal work on the pedestal for the new Sat Com dome, soon to be fitted.
Berthed at Curacao during the World Voyage.
On the "Meadow" one sunny afternoon.
Run ashore to the Hotel El Mirador in Acapulco.
Sally Bell WAP, Self, Steve ? DJ, ??, Dave Harris 3/RO.
Self, Dave Harris, Nick Green 3/O, Sally Bell, Steve.
Sally, to this day, doesnít know how she managed to get separated from Alan's group that night and ended up in a brothel in the hills with a bunch of cooks, bakers and bar staff!!!!
The "Crossing the Line" Team before the ceremony. I'm not going to try and name everyone but those I do remember are: The sadly-late Ray Houghton 3/EO is third from left, front row. Captain Mike Bradford (Sammy), Jimmy Plowman is in the red jacket, Mike Fowler (aka Pugwash Ch/Off) as the Clerk of the Court, Bill Allison Cr/Dir. Self in Policeman's helmet doing something suspicious to Sally with my truncheon and John Barr 3/O as the Barber at the back LH side.
Another aerial shot from the Pago Pago cable car.
The names in grey in the following Toga night shots have been kindly supplied by Sally Bell (now Byrne).
Toga night in my cabin!
Self, Sally Bell WAP, John Barr 3/O & Sandy Elson Chillie-Ho.
Sue Allen WAP, Guy Galpin 3/EO, Sandy, Self, John, Sally Bell.
Nick Green 3/O, John "Crusty" Ward 4/EO and poor old Ray Houghton.
In KG-V Dry-Dock, Southampton for refit.
Ditto. The chap holding up the starboard propeller is Gordon Chapman CRO.
A run ashore in Santorini (or donkey ride anyway!).
Self and Karen, a rather pleasant young lady pax of my acquaintance, on a wall in Santorini.
An un-scheduled stop in dry-dock. This was after we bent the starboard propeller on a rock leaving Ponta Delgada!
